Military.com – The head of U.S. Army acquisitions said Thursday that allowing artificial intelligence to control some weapons systems may be the only way to defeat enemy weapons. U.S. military has embraced AI, arguing that America cannot compete against potential adversaries such as Russia and China without the futuristic technology. Concern over placing machines in charge of deadly weapons has prompted military officials to adopt a conservative approach to AI, one that involves a human in the decision-making process for the use of deadly force. | go to source
The Pentagon doesn’t have enough money for the AIs it already has. It needs a gazillion more dollars to create a massive AI for homeland security, for the military, but, to like only predict natural disasters, not human-mob-type ones or anything. I mean, it’s not like we’re designing autonomous weapons systems this AI could control or anything.
I laugh, but inside, I pee, a little. I welcome my robot overlords.
From Military.com – Officials on Tuesday unveiled the Trump administration’s new effort to streamline the use and development of AI for homeland security, as well as military operations abroad. But the report, titled, “Department Of Defense Artificial Intelligence Strategy: Harnessing AI To Advance Our Security And Prosperity,” also pinpointed applications in which smart algorithms could address “global challenges of significant societal importance, such as operationalizing AI for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief for wildfires, hurricanes and earthquakes.” | go to source

Army Refutes Microsoft Employees’ Charge that New Awareness Tool is for Killing
The under secretary of the Army on Tuesday refuted criticisms that its newest, high-tech situational awareness tool — made by Microsoft — “is designed to kill people.”…..”I always like to do this,” he said, describing the glasses as the soldier’s sights. “It looks like a pair of glasses, and you can put an interface in there with thermal, day, night [capabilities] and then, if you have a system where you can pipe synthetic training in, you could wear this same piece of equipment into combat, and you could train with it at home, and you could also collect data.” – Military.com | go to source
