How the U.S.-China trade war became a conflict over the future of tech – The Washington Post

From The Washington Post –

President Trump’s decision to confront Beijing over policies that he says discriminate against foreign companies and distort global markets has become a battle for control of advanced communications and computing technologies.
That evolution is taking the transpacific conflict into sensitive realms of national security and human rights, making a quick settlement an ever more distant outcome. It is also putting at risk a wide array of U.S.-China technology cooperation, including easy access to visas for researchers and venture capital funds for U.S. start-ups — and threatening to boomerang on U.S. companies that China might retaliate against. | go to source

Scientists Create the World’s First Organism – PhoneWorld Magazine

From PhoneWorld Magazine –
It is for the very first time that scientists have created a life with a genetic code that was developed from scratch.
No doubt, it was a stunning scientific feat. The artificial E-coli holds 4 million base pair of DNA code. It took scientists over a year to just read the entire DNA code. So why is this such an important breakthrough?
Traditionally, E-coli is used to make compounds for drugs to treat cancer, heart attacks, and multiple sclerosis. However, as soon as natural E-coli is contaminated with bacteria, it’s useless to doctors. | go to source

The On-Again, Off-Again Coup of Venezuela- The Latest

In preparation for this show, I waited as long as I could to sit down to write about the current state of affairs with the is it or is ain’t a coup thing in Venezuela.  Here are the latest headlines I’ve culled in preparation for this story:

The latest from around the news web on the Venezuela Coup attempt

Activists Protect DC Venezuelan Embassy from US-supported Coup – CounterPunch
Venezuelan Opposition Reps Throw Temper Tantrums When Confronted About Lack of Legitimacy, Interventionist Plans at OAS – Mintpress News
Activists Have Been Living In The Venezuelan Embassy For Two Weeks – DCist
Cuban Government Rejects Coup Movement in Venezuela – Prensa Latina
Venezuela says it is confronting small group of traitors attempting coup – Reuters
Pro-Guaido bloc celebrates, encourages Venezuela coup attempt – RT
The Latest: Venezuelan govt says it is putting down coup bid – Herald-Whig
Venezuela Coup! Will Neocons (Finally) Get Their War? – Antiwar.com

Basically, the situation is fluid, with the American guy claiming he’s winning and the Russia/China guy claiming these wanna-be coup guys ain’t crap, and they’re pretty much already done.

Perhaps tomorrow we will have a more conclusive conclusion, or another day of nah I got this, no, no, I GOT THIS! | go to source

Mexico Tells US to Open the Northern Flow or Face Tariffs

In a new twist on the Trade War front, Mexico is hinting that it might use tariffs against the US in response to it’s claims the US actions on the border are significantly impeding northern flow, and it’s hurting everyone.

From the Mexico News Daily – The Mexican government has not ruled out imposing new trade sanctions against the U.S. in retaliation for measures that have had slowed the movement of trade goods across the border. But foreign trade undersecretary Luz María de la Mora expressed confidence such a move won’t be necessary due to the dialogue Mexico has with Washington.

Perhaps, methinks this might be bluster, but it does, nonetheless, highlight the growing tensions between the US and Mexico over border issues.  It’s also apparently some majorly debated thing in America.  I have heard the word borders more in the last year than I have in my entire existence up to that point.

More from Mexico News Daily- Truck traffic has been slowed for more than a month as the U.S. has been unable to keep up with the volume since it reassigned hundreds of border agents to handle the influx of migrants attempting to cross from Mexico.  De la Mora said there are provisions in international agreements that stipulate there should be no unnecessary measures implemented that would inhibit trade.  But “what we want is that this is resolved quickly through dialogue and we believe that can be achieved.” | go to source

Sweet Meteor of Death is BACK in the Running After Hard 2016 Loss

I remember in 2016 weighing my choice of red hot zillas, blue chill zillas, even some green fire zillas, when one candidate really stood out among them all.  No, it wasn’t Gary Aleppo Johnson, and no it wasn’t John Hegelen of the Natural Law Party even though I did vote for him in 2000 as a protest because the red, blue zillas subjectively sucked.

Now, I am getting somewhere very important, for that candidate was SMOD.  Say it with me, SMOD 2016.  I went full SMOD (Sweet Meteor of Death) and I don’t regret it.  Well, much like Bernie Sanders, apparently, SMOD can STILL WIN!  Tell the studio audience what I’m talking about

Mirror UK – NASA chief Jim Bridenstine has warned that a killer asteroid could smash into the Earth within our lifetime, unless we do more to protect the planet.  Speaking at the 2019 Planetary Defense Conference in Washington yesterday, the NASA administrator cautioned against the so-called “giggle factor” when it comes to asteroids.  “We have to make sure that people understand that this is not about Hollywood, it’s not about the movies,” Bridenstine said.  “This is about ultimately protecting the only planet we know, right now, to host life – and that is the planet Earth.” | go to source

Wasp Masters Herd Zombie Spiders

So one day I was minding my own business and it felt a little…strange….a little strange in my web maker, so to speak, my big protruding, you know, abdomen, because I’m a spider and I spin webs and holy hell I feel odd.  I feel like wasps are really the superior insect.  I feel as if I should probably totally slave for them.

If this happened to a spider you know, maybe even love, then your spider is the victim of zombie hacking, and the culprit, if you can’t tell from the setup, is a zombie-making wasp.

Take it away, Science Daily –  Setting off a startling chain of events, a parasitoid wasp can force a spider to weave a special web to suspend the wasp pupa just before it finishes killing its spider host. William Eberhard, staff scientist emeritus at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and Marcelo Gonzaga at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia in Brazil have assembled wide-ranging evidence that ‘zombification’ involves hacking existing web-spinning mechanisms by hijacking the spider’s own molting hormone, ecdysone. | go to source

Rightzilla – Ocasio-Cortez cuts mic on constituent challenging her ‘totally absurd, fascist’ take on free speech – Infowars

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demonstrated the old adage “actions speak louder than words” at a recent town hall when a constituent questioned the socialist’s “fascist” perspective on free speech.  Video of the sparsely attended event in Queens featured a small crowd and a line of speakers waiting to address Ocasio-Cortez, who stood on an elevated stage behind a fancy podium. One of the speakers introduced himself as James Scott Berry and described himself as a registered Republican with the life mantra “always be willing to be wrong.”  Berry posed two different questions: Whether AOC would be willing to investigation the “over 3 million incidents of violent acts and threats of violence allowed in our schools against teachers and against fellow students ever year,” and whether she’s agreed that the greatest freedom in the world is the “freedom to hate, because in many countries you cannot.”
When I highlight stories, I try to find the most salient point. I had a really hard time finding that point because, much like the leftzilla winner from yesterday, the headline did not get fulfilled by the story.  While it is true that at one point this dude’s mic was cut off, it was quickly restored and a rather lengthy discourse ensued.  The crux seems to be AOC might possibly define incitement to violence more broadly than our hero does.  I’ll leave you zillas to fight over those table scraps.

They get the win anyway, Infowars, that is, because the video hits the leftzillas with their own favorite bludgeoning tool, ‘fascist.’  But it still failed to deliver on the zilla promised. | go to source

Leftzilla – Trump admin was surveilling last year’s family separation protests, internal documents reveal – Daily Kos

Once again we have a zilla that fails to fully deliver.  The headline sounds scandalous enough, so much so that Daily Kos gets the Oppo of the day.  But, outside of the choir room, this song will sing flatter than pancakes being sucked into a black hole.  Well, I guess anything stuffed into a black hole will tend to be ultimate flatted, so to speak.

Do let me get back on point, because that’s what you pay for.  This little ditty reveals that, shock, government spies on protests, and they hire ‘private’ companies to do this work sometimes.  Still, if you’re a leftzilla, I understand why this would be like someone metaphorically spilled vegetables in your ice cream (unless you’re into that sort of thing).  Let’s let the winner, Daily Kos, shock us with their zilla.

Daily Kos – Government documents obtained by a coalition of immigrant rights group under the Freedom of Information Act show that the Trump administration was using a private cybersecurity company to monitor the hundreds of nationwide protests last year organized by Americans outraged over its family separation policy, adding to the disturbing pattern of surveillance and targeting of critics under the Trump administration.

“The documents include a list disseminated by [Homeland Security’s] Office on Intelligence and Analysis of more than 600 protests that took place in June 2018, when public horror at children being systematically ripped from their parents became widespread,” the American Immigration Council said. A firm called LookingGlass shared the information, including Facebook Event IDs and logistics such as time and location, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s investigative arm. | go to source

US Refutes Rumor Crashed F-35 is Found as Race for Lost High Tech Continues Between Nations

The old trope of ‘this sounds like this was written by a Hollywood script writer” is often abused and rarely accurately applied.  Let me, nonetheless, be bold enough to assure you that I have a story that fits that scenario effectively and authentically.
I give you the story of a downed top tech fighter in deep waters and a race against time to prevent the enemy from getting the tech, or, if you’re from Russia or China, a race against time to liberate technology from thee enemy.  Here’s more from….
The Drive – There has been some confusion over whether or not Japanese or American authorities have found the main wreckage a Japan Air Self Defense Force F-35A Joint Strike Fighter that crashed in the Pacific Ocean earlier this month. A senior U.S. military officer had told reporters that personnel had found the plane, only to get contradicted by multiple other U.S. military spokespersons.

U.S. Air Force General Charles Brown, head of Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), told reporters that the location of the stealthy fighter jet was known during a press briefing on Apr. 30, 2019, according to Nikkei Asian Review. The F-35A crashed on Apr. 9, 2019 off the coast of Japan. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown. 41-year-old Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) Major Akinori Hosomi was at the control of the plane at the time and also remains missing. | go to source

Iranian Revolutionary Guard General Defects to US

Washington Free Beacon – A senior Iranian military officer affiliated with the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, has fled the Islamic Republic with a cache of secret documents said to contain information on Tehran’s military plans, according to reports.

Ali Nasiri, a former IRGC brigadier general who once headed Iran’s counterintelligence operations, is reported to have fled Iran and requested political asylum at a U.S. embassy in an unnamed Gulf country, according to a report carried in Iran Commentary, an online news portal that publishes information about Iran’s human rights abuses and illicit activity. | go to source

What if Life Began Outside of Earth and it Wasn’t an Alien Conspiracy, It Was Science?

There’s these things called planetesimals, they apparently are the heart of any new planet.  Well, scientists believe these planetesimals ‘had all the ingredients necessary” for the beginning of life to have happened long before earth was even fully.  Now the people who know science will tell it to you.  Take it away,  Live Science –

Life may have arisen in our solar system before Earth even finished forming.  Planetesimals, the rocky building blocks of planets, likely had all the ingredients necessary for life as we know it way back at the dawn of the solar system, said Lindy Elkins-Tanton, a planetary scientist at Arizona State University (ASU).  And clement conditions may have persisted inside some planetesimals for tens of millions of years — perhaps long enough for life to emerge, said Elkins-Tanton, the director of ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration and the principal investigator of NASA’s upcoming mission to the odd metallic asteroid Psyche. | go to source

US v China Arms Race Driving Military Spending to Record Levels

In 1984, Sting asked the question, do the Russians love their children too?  That question was asked because of the insane hype around the greatest arms race of ever, between America and the Soviet Union.
Why, oh why do I need to explain this to you given the headline you’ve already seen?  Well, it seems that arms race of all time is gonna have to take a step back to a new show, a new game, with America once again representing one side but CHINA stepping in to replace the Soviet Union.

From Business Standard – Global military expenditure reached its highest level last year since the end of the Cold War, fueled by increased spending in the United States and China, the world’s two biggest economies, a leading defence think-tank said on Monday.  In its annual report, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said overall global military spending in 2018 hit $1.82 trillion, up 2.6 percent on the previous year.  That is the highest figure since 1988, when such data first became available as the Cold War began winding down. | go to source

The World’s Largest Graveyard Might Be Facebook, and Soon, the Dead Will Outnumber the Living

Without appearing to assume what any rational person would presume should assume I could potentially presume I could resume regarding the potential continuation of Facebook, let’s go along with the scenario in the story I found from The Mirror UK.  In that scenario, we have to assume we have some presumption to assume that Facebook will be around until 2070.  The story is so lulzy that I am going to NEED YOU to go along with me on this one and run with this scenario.  Presumptions notwithstanding, we need to assume Facebook will certainly be here in 2070 for this lulz to even work.

You see, folks, in this scenario, a little thing is happening on Facebook that many of us know about, that many of us have sometimes wondered if it would one day be our fate as well, to become, a dead profile, not like a figurative dead profile, a profile of a dead person.  Here’s the Mirror UK’s deets on this thing:
“A new report by academics from the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) – part of the University of Oxford – sets up two potential extreme scenarios.  The first assumes that no new users join as of 2018; the second assumes that Facebook continues to grow by its current rate of 13% globally, every year, until each market reaches saturation.”

Now I grant you that the ‘study’ (Is that what the kids call it these days) really has to make a LOT of far fetched assumptions, I mean, it presumes a lot, dontcha think?  BUT…..even if the story itself is a bit overly cooked, so to speak, it does lead us, or, rather, me, to this opportunity to highlight the increasing fact that a SIGNIFICANT portion of Facebook is, in fact, a digital graveyard, and parts of me love this, and parts of me don’t know if I should delete my Facebook account. | go to source

Leftzilla – Trump Claims Obama Was Disloyal To America As Investigators Close In – Politics USA

Our Polzilla of the day comes to us from Politics USA.  And if you know your poly blogs, that means the Leftzillas win again!  Congrats, leftzillas.  Politic USA captures a rather ‘interesting’ exchange Donald Trump had recently.  I’ll let the leftzillas tell the tale-
Politics USA – Trump claimed in Green Bay that former President Obama had been disloyal to America, as congressional investigators are digging into his relationship with Russia.  Trump said, “Now, you finally have a president who is loyal to you. Every day between now and November 2020, we are going to keep on working. We are going to keep on fighting, and we are going to keep on winning, winning, winning. Remember I used to tell you about winning. We’re winning. We are respected again, and I have to say every leader without fail that comes to see me in the Oval Office, they all say without fail. Congratulations, it’s incredible what’s happened to the United States.”
Them providing the quote was good and sporting of them considering the quote doesn’t, sadly, fully deliver on the zilla promise of the headline.  For the zilla fans, this is a bit of a letdown, but the exploitation of the potential for the title to be fully correct leads me to give them the win today nonetheless. | go to source

Specifically, the death of a young women named Heather Heyer, who was killed by a white supremacist coward attending the “United the Right” rally put on by Richard Spencer. He then sought to use those events as a cudgel against Donald Trump as part of the roll out of his candidacy.  It’s about to get rockier as The Daily Beast is reporting that Biden made that video without the consent of the deceased family.  Joe Biden did not tell Susan Bro, Heather Heyer’s mother, that he would be invoking her daughter’s murder in Charlottesville in August 2017 in his presidential campaign launch video focusing on “the battle for the soul” of America | go to source

3 Percent GDP Growth Rate Mark Broken for First Time Since 2015

One Chemical 3D Printing All Purpose Lab Coming Up

Chemical 3D printing is a thing, in case you didn’t know  If you DID know you might not have heard of  a recent breakthrough from the Berkeley Lab in good old California that claims to be able to build a chemical 3D printing template that will allow multiple complex chemical reactions, with scientificimal and engineering precision, to take place, all in one template.
The scientists are calling this thing a “lab on a chip,” meaning they can create a lab, a chemical 3D printing lab, that can process, diagnose, investigate, produce multiple functions that have to do with processing chemicals to do things we want them to do.  Ok, Science Daily, give us more-

From Science Daily — Bridge over coupled waters: Scientists 3D-print all-liquid ‘lab on a chip’

Researchers at DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have 3D-printed an all-liquid device that, with the click of a button, can be repeatedly reconfigured on demand to serve a wide range of applications — from making battery materials to screening drug candidates.   “What we demonstrated is remarkable. Our 3D-printed device can be programmed to carry out multistep, complex chemical reactions on demand,” said Brett Helms, a staff scientist in Berkeley Lab’s Materials Sciences Division and Molecular Foundry, who led the study. “What’s even more amazing is that this versatile platform can be reconfigured to efficiently and precisely combine molecules to form very specific products, such as organic battery materials.” | go to source

Oxford Man With PHD Says Aliens Messing With Climate Can Only Be Defeated with Alien-Human Hybrids

I kid you not, even legit geniuses, even legit phd big brained power houses sometimes stumble upon an extra level of self-inflicted derpage that causes you to question the very existence of humanity.
In this case, that feeling might be particularly apropos if we are talking about Oxford Professor and big brained awesome guy Dr Young-hae-Chi who has decided that he has figured out the mystery of the universe, aliens, aliens merging with humans to take over the universe and take over humans from within.
Ma’am, we traced the source of the call, and it’s in your womb. Holy next level scary if this guy is even REMOTELY right, but if he is, there’s then no reason not to believe that the LITERAL Dr. Who will show up and save us, in whatever form the doctor has taken up (unless it’s a Dallas Cowboys fan, go Eagles, Dallas Sucks, I apologize in advance for violating my pledge for non-partisanship but Dallas does suck, objectively).
This doctor, Dr. Chi, not Who, believes aliens are LITERALLY messing with us to mess with climate change because jerks and stuff, BUT we can combat it by creating a new alien-human species that will literally save the world from climate change, but I know that’s code for destroy all humans and create a super alien race of Dallas Cowboys fans to take over the universe.  Not even the Daleks, the nemesis (what’s plural for nemesis?) of the previously mentioned Dr. Who, are quite as scary as that proposition.
Here’s a snippet of the version the normies over at the Sun UK gave you- Oxford University professor claims aliens are already breeding with humans on earth  –  Dr Young-hae Chi, an instructor in Korean at Oxford’s Oriental Institute, part of the prestigious university, thinks this new species will save Earth from annihilation from climate change.  Dr Chi first said the hybrids may already exist in a lecture in 2012 but has now written a book on the subject.  He believes there is a strong correlation between climate change and alien abductions, the Oxford Student newspaper has reported.   His book, written in Korean, is called Alien Visitations and the End of Humanity. | go to source

Saudis Share Picture of Execution of 37 “Terrorists” On Twitter

Saudi Arabia recently released a twitter photo of ‘terrorists’ it had executed this past week.  The release of the photo was accompanied with a statement from Saudi Arabia about the execution of 37 men. One individual was crucified, after death, as a warning to anyone else who would engage in activity the kingdom would find to be terroristic in nature.
One of the ‘terrorists’ was a pro-democracy protestor who had  at one time secured entrance to Western Michigan University.  His name was Mujtaba al-Sweikat.  He was on his way to college, or about to leave, when he was arrested, in 2011, for protesting.  He spent 7 years in prison before the House of Saud publicly hung him.
Here’s a little more from All That’s Interesting  – “Saudi Arabia Just Executed 37 People And Crucified One, Including A Student Slated For College In The U.S.    The SPA released a statement on Twitter that explained the government’s macabre actions as an effective means to deter others while bringing justice to individuals who allegedly adopted violent ideologies and began forming terrorist cells.”

It should be noted that Saudi Arabian Mogul Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is the second biggest single owner of Twitter.  He himself recently spent 2 months in prison under corruption charges but appears to have made a financial arrangement with the House of Saud to secure his release.  Yay. | go to source

African Youth Delivers Power to Village with Homemade Windmills

Let’s consider this Futureq feature a very special feature.  It’s the story of Kamkwamba, who took it upon himself to figure out the science and the tech, the work, the resources, needed to deliver to his community the electricity they so desperately needed.  Don Quixote fought windmills to fruitless ends, while Kamkwamba made windmills that delivered power.

From Science Times – Kamkwamba was kicked out of school when he couldn’t pay 80 dollars in school fees, and he spent his days at the library, where a book with photographs of windmills caught his eye. “I thought, this thing exists in this book, it means someone else managed to build this machine,” he said.  Armed with the book, the then-14-year-old taught himself to build windmills. He scoured through junkyards for items, including bicycle parts, plastic pipes, tractor fans and car batteries. For the tower, he collected wood from blue-gum trees.
…..Now, he has five windmills, the tallest at 37 feet. He built one at an area school that he used to teach classes on windmill-building. The windmills generate electricity and pump water in his hometown, north of the capital, Lilongwe. Neighbors regularly trek across the dusty footpaths to his house to charge their cellphones. Knife Violence is Worst in UK Ever, But Violent Crime Is Unchanged

On one hand, violent crime overall is about the same.  On the other hand, knife crimes are crushing it, and not in a good way.  This is merry old England we are talking about were, apparently, violent goons and thugs and whatnot have gone from guns to knives, and, well, apparently they are JUST as efficient at the killings with the knives as they are with the guns.
Not that any of that is cool, I’m just saying.  Here’s some more actual details about this from the BBC, which, I should point out, like I do with others, is a state sponsored outlet.

BBC – Police recorded 40,829 offences involving knives or sharp instruments in 2018, up 6% on the year before.  The Office for National Statistics said cases of murder and manslaughter, excluding terror attacks, increased by 12%. There were 732 killings, up from 655 in 2017 – the highest since 2007.  But the separate Crime Survey, based on people’s experiences, points to no significant change in overall crime. | go to source

Rep. Swalwell said on MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber, “There’s evidence of collusion and coordination. It doesn’t go beyond a reasonable doubt but that doesn’t mean this is a good guy. We know the Russians helped him. He asked them to help him. What we don’t know yet is why won’t he show us his taxes, his finances. And look, if this guy is able to be blackmailed by a porn star, how do we know he won’t be blackmailed by Vladimir Putin?” | go to source

Pig Hearts Power Pacemakers, and Humans Might Soon Be Next

Using the power of your own heart, you might one day be able to sustain devices that will keep your heart going, using your own heart’s power.  The devices are pacemakers, and a battery-free version of one just passed some early tests on pigs.  New Scientist has more deets:  A battery-free pacemaker that harvests energy from heartbeats has been successfully tested in pigs. It uses an energy harvester wrapped around the heart that generates electricity from movement….In tests, Wang and his colleagues found that the energy they harvested from the heart was higher than that needed for a human pacemaker. They used pigs in the tests because their hearts are about the same size as those of humans. | go to source

Public Onanaism While Watching Female MMA Fighter Equals Bashing

You’re minding your business the way you do when you’re a seriously badass women’s MMA fighter and the next thing you know you catch out of of the corner of your eye a man who has taken liberties with himself while fixating his attention upon your person.
Dudes, I’m really trying to preserve our rated PG setting here.
What do you think happened after that?  From The Star Online-  A Brazilian mixed martial artist pummeled a man after he allegedly refused to stop fondling himself while watching her during a beach photo shoot.  Joyce Vieira, 27, was at a Rio de Janeiro beach posing for a swimsuit shoot on April 8 when she noticed a man nearby, reported Folha de São Paulo via Deadspin on Friday, April 19.  When she approached him, she said his pants were down and his penis was erect as he made moaning sounds.  While she had not intended to use her mean martial arts moves in jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and boxing outside of the ring, the amateur fighter’s skills were put to use when the man challenged her. | go to source

Rightzilla – FAKE NEWS: Democrat Super PAC Priorities USA Gave $1.5 Million To Buzzfeed In Last Weeks Of 2016 Election – Big League Politics

I’m not gonna lie, in the interest of not appearing to be biased, I was worried about the number of Leftzilla wins I assigned in a row recently.  I choose em as I see em and sometimes statistics might produce a string of the baddies wins in a row (depending on your favorite zilla).  Fortunately, rightzilla earned themselves a win today with this well-placed jab targeting an enemy’s particularly vulnerable perceived weakness.  In this case, they went after Buzzfeed for LITERALLY (according to them) pushing political content marketing as news (aka, Fake News).  Big League Politics takes the win today.  Congrats and How Dare you! (Again, depending on your favorite zilla).  Here’s more from the winners:
Big League Politics – Buzzfeed received $1.5 million from the top Democrat super PAC Priorities USA Action in the final weeks of the 2016 election, according to federal election reports. Priorities USA was Hillary Clinton’s most powerful PAC in her campaign against President Donald Trump. (h/t HRC’s Field Sobriety Test). | go to source

Is SCOTUS About to Allow Citizenship Question on Census? Signs Point to Yes…..

This is one of those stories that, if what is reported actually happens, this could be a significant game changer in the reality of power as far as the power political parties have to assure that government programs benefit their particular allies.
To do this, number fudging is the name of the game.  The use of ‘illegal’ or ‘undocumented’ people (people who are not recognized as citizens by the US government) to elevate numbers that determine the allotment of government grants and contract awards has long been a suspect tactic of the democrats.
If this ruling happens, and IF the rumors of the Dems’ uses of non-citizen number for political gains is true, then the Democrats are about to face some serious cash reductions.
Of course, as usual, that IF that floats out there is often hard to pin down, so we’ll see where this goes but I think it warrants your consideration.
More from Legal Insurrection – The consensus among mainstream media commentators was that the administration is going to win.  Adam Liptak at The NY Times wrote, On Census Citizenship Question, Supreme Court’s Conservatives Appear United:  The Supreme Court’s conservative majority seemed ready on Tuesday to allow the Trump administration to add a question on citizenship to the 2020 census, which critics say would undermine its accuracy by discouraging both legal and unauthorized immigrants from filling out the forms…. | go to source

Japanese Emperor Reports Abdication to Dead Father One Week Before New Emperor Takes His Place

The Japanese Emperor is abdicating his crown, and it’s a pretty big deal.  It’s such a big deal that he had to go report the news to his Dad, even though he’s dead.  The visit was part of a ceremony intended to connect the past, the present, and the future Emperors together, but did you even know Japan still had an Emperor, and, if you did, did you know he was about to replaced by a young wippersnapper who’s not even 60 yet?  He’s 59 by the way.

Here’s the brief deets from Japan Today – Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited the tomb of his father, Emperor Hirohito, on the outskirts of Tokyo on Tuesday for an official ceremony to report his upcoming abdication on April 30….The emperor, wearing a morning suit, and the empress, wearing a long dress, offered prayers at the mausoleum during the “Shinetsu no gi” ritual.  Crown Prince Naruhito, 59, who will ascend the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, will similarly take part in a number of ceremonies and rituals to mark his succession. | go to source

Mistrial declared for man who snapped $4.5M statue’s thumb

Go to any museum and you will see numerous signs that say don’t touch.  Seriously, museums are almost synonymous with don’t touch.  Everyone knows that.  Well, if you think that’s funny, if you think it’s ok to buck authority and defy museum rules, feast your eyes and ears on this tale of pain.  It’s the story of a young man, a thumb, a broken statue, and $4.5 million in damages from a sudden attack of the stupids (don’t touch is just an invitation to touch.

From AP News – “A jury was unable to reach a verdict in the trial of a Delaware man who admitted he broke a thumb off a $4.5 million statue at a Philadelphia museum.   Michael Rohana was attending a Christmas-themed ugly sweater party at the Franklin Institute in December 2017 when he entered a closed exhibit of ancient Chinese terra cotta warrior statues. Authorities said Rohana, 25, took photos while posing next to a statue known as “The Cavalryman,” then removed the valuable relic’s left thumb and made off with it. The incident was captured by surveillance cameras.”

I don’t even know how to process this, save for noting how awesome it was that the thumb breaker thought it would be a great idea to taunt the museum’s ‘don’t touch’ authority by posting his evil ways on the socials, yeah, on the socials.
Moral of the story is this (and no, it has NOTHING to do with the stupid don’t touch rule), if you can’t pay the bill, don’t post it n socials. | go to source

From Think Progress – According to the criminal complaint, the UCP had previous run-ins with the law — including one 2017 incident after the FBI received a tip that the group was engaged in “militia extremist activity” in Flora Vista, New Mexico.  Before the tip was received, Hopkins allegedly said the group was “training to assassinate George Soros, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.” He claimed it was because the three prominent Democrats supported Antifa, according to the complaint. | go to source

China Has a Swine Flu Problem at the Trade Negotiating Table, And It’s Getting Worse

A recent outbreak of Swine Flu in China has grown to epic proportions just as US-China trade talks have hit a crucial state.  The hit to the Chinese economy, a land where 1 in every 2 pigs in the world lives and dies, and, most likely gets eaten, could affect their negotiating power with the US at the trade talks table.

From CNBC – “China’s worsening African swine flu crisis could give the U.S. an edge over China as the two countries try to hammer out a trade agreement, an analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch said Tuesday.  China, which is home to about half of the world’s pig population and the biggest pork consumer, has been ravaged by an outbreak of African swine flu recently, a virus for which there is no cure or vaccine.”

It remains to be seen how long it will take for the flu to run its course and what the total damage will be. | go to source

“On April 13, 2019, at approximately 2 p.m. CDT, five to six Mexican military personnel questioned two U.S. Army soldiers who were conducting border support operations in an unmarked (Customs and Border Protection) vehicle near the southwest border in the vicinity of Clint, Texas,” US Northern Command told CNN in a statement.
“The US soldiers were appropriately in US territory” during the encounter, the statement added.
During the incident, the Mexican soldiers pointed their weapons at the US troops, removing a soldier’s sidearm and returning it to the unmarked US vehicle, the officials said. | go to source

Leftzilla – Mueller Finds Evidence That Fox News Is White House Produced Propaganda – Politics USA

This headline wins PG Gordy’s (that’s me) Polzilla Top Pol today because of the next-level layering of potential multiple assaults on multiple political opponents, including Fox News and, of course, Donald Trump.  The context is a part of the Mueller report that alleges that the Trump team was coordinating with Fox News to assure their interviews went as planned.

Politics USA decries:  If Mueller is correct, Fox News is literal state-run television  It is now clear why the Trump administration almost exclusively only deals with Fox News. If the White House has the ability to have parts of Fox interviews edited before they are broadcast, it would mean that Fox isn’t news at all. It is an administration run television station. Interview subjects don’t get to tell journalists what to remove.

Florida man pretended to be a cop, police say. He was arrested after trying to pull over a real detective

One night, a man was driving down the road, minding his own business.  He was in Florida, so he knew, yeah, I better be on the watch out for Florida Man.
He drove, calmly, certainly, until suddenly there were sirens.  He knew what sirens were because, well, he was a cop.  He was a detective, so he didn’t drive around in a marked vehicle.
The sirens kept going, so our Detective pulls over and is greeted by Officer Matthew Joseph Erris, aka Florida Man.  Officer Erris supplied his ID to our detective, who recognized a Florida man moment when he saw it, and promptly arrested the faux officer on the spot.

At least Florida man, Officer Erris, wasn’t packing real heat.  All the detective found in his car was an airsoft pistol.  This, somehow, seems fitting. | go to source

Anti-Aging Pill Company Begins Long-Term Testing

Neurohacker Collective is claiming to have created an anti-aging pills that solves the “healthy aging puzzle.”  Concentrating on manipulating cellular and mitochondrial functions in consideration of the network structures they comprise, the company believes they can reverse the aging process.  Here’s more from Scientific American
Neurohacker Collective uses the idea of a “healthy aging puzzle” as a way to fit together what are often treated as isolated pieces of cellular and mitochondrial function into a bigger picture of how these things work together. Mitochondrial networks produce about our body weight of cellular energy (i.e., ATP) every day. Cells use this energy to do the work they need to clean up damage and do many other important jobs. A molecule called NAD+ is used to make ATP; it’s also used to activate sirtuins (a cellular stress sensing pathway) and to promote DNA repair. The food we eat is converted into ATP by several linked pathways. Hormones tell groups of cells how to respond together. Our body clock influences what cellular and mitochondrial processes are given preference at different times of the day and night. Health doesn’t happen because of any of these pieces in isolation; it’s a result of all of them happening together.  – Scientific American | go to source

Father of the American Cavalry May Have Had a Little Woman in Him, No, Literally

So there’s this guy named Casimir Pulaski who is considered by enough people so as not to make the title of this story clickbait, the father of the American Cavalry.  The fact that his name is hardly of the WASPY variety makes this ‘fact’ quite fitting of the alleged American spirit.  But wait, there’s more.  According to Virginia Hutton Estabrook, an assistant professor of anthropology at Georgia Southern University, “One of the ways that male and female skeletons are different is the pelvis.  In females, the pelvic cavity has a more oval shape. It’s less heart-shaped than in the male pelvis. Pulaski’s looked very female.”
She went on to explain that it essentially appears at least likely he is one of one in 2000 people who fall into a category called Intersex. “Intersex, as Pulaski is suspected to perhaps have been, is an individual who carries both biological characteristics of males and females.”- All That’s Interesting. | go to source

Facts Don’t Care About Your Feelings, But Your A.I Buddy Does, and It LOVES THEM!

In the future, your emotions will teach machines to think.  The future is now.  The latest entrant into futureville is Affectiva, a humble startup just trying to work on AI tools that can figure out how you feel.  That might not sound all that amazeballs to you, but let me tell you why it is.  Well, let me let Digital Trends tell you why this is a pretty big freaking deal.
“Based on the idea that something as ephemeral as emotion can be captured and quantified as its own data point, it seeks to create technology that’s able to accurately mine our emotions. In doing so, its proponents claim that it will change the way that we interact with the devices around us; a transformation that, in just a few years, will be as unimaginable to us as using a computer with a graphical interface.”
One day, we may think a video into our eyscann, and our AI-driven Coxls around our wrists might have the power, from our own bodies, to create virtual 3d ‘websites’ around us, a fully immersive digital interaction.  Yeah, I think I can imagine it, at least in part. | go to source

“Researchers have implemented a prototype quantum device that can generate and analyze a quantum superposition of possible futures. Using a novel quantum algorithm, the possible outcomes of a decision process are encoded as a superposition of different photon locations. Using interferometry, the team show that it is possible to conduct a search through the set of possible futures without looking at each future individually.”
